7 He Had An Impressive Performance At The Potato Bowl

Some players have a habit of choking when the bigger games roll around, but that doesn’t seem to be the case for Wilson. While playing in the 2018 Famous Idaho Potato Bowl, Wilson put on the performance of a lifetime.

He managed to make 18 uninterrupted passes to further push his team to a serious lead. Trudging down the field, Wilson led the team to an additional four touchdowns to beat Western Michigan fairly handily. The name of the game might be silly, but Wilson was all business on that day.

6 He Dominated In The Boca Raton Bowl

While he wasn’t as on top of his passes as he was in the Potato Bowl, it is fair to say that Wilson crushed it at the 2020 Boca Raton Bowl. In fact, Wilson was so skilled in the game that he was named the MVP of the game.

His skill in that game was just more of the same from that entire year. Wilson played so well that he was also recognized by being awarded the 2020 Polynesian College Football Player Of The Year Award.

5 His Rookie Contract Was Worth Well Over $50 Million

When a team is looking to draft someone that could potentially turn their losing tendencies into winning tendencies, money is often no object. That might be why Zach Wilson was able to sign onto a massive rookie contract that would set most average people up for the rest of their lives.

The initial contract guaranteed that Wilson would earn over $35 million, but he also enjoyed a nice cool near $23 million signing bonus. As far as four-year deals go, Wilson could have ended up doing much, much worse.

4 His First NFL Start Was Against The Man He Succeeded

Fans were already giving Wilson more hate than he deserved, but when he got injured in week 7, that hate was taken to unbelievable levels. He took a nasty hit and wound up with a sprained ligament in his knee, something that kept him out of action for another few games.

He wouldn’t be able to return until week 12, but all that time away from the field didn’t help at all. The Jets continued to fail to impress and wound up with a 3-10 record for the season. The next season looked like it could be promising, but the unthinkable happened.

1 He Took Another Serious Injury In His First Game Of 2022

Most players don’t go all out in the pre-season, so it was a shock to the world when people learned that Wilson had suffered a serious leg injury. It was likely that his prior injury only served to weaken the knee and it finally went during that game.

It was revealed that Wilson had torn his meniscus and that he would require some basic surgery in order to repair the damage. It’s an unfortunate setback to a promising player’s career, but Wilson will likely find a way to bounce back in no time at all.
