10 Ways Impact Wrestling Has Improved Under Scott D'Amore
Matthew Harrington Despite TNA becoming a meme to many wrestling fans due to its once promising nature being tarnished in favor of becoming a WCW & WWE Nostalgia promotion, the company has persevered. Now known as Impact Wrestling, the company has ditched its Dixie Carter days in favor of brighter pastures, under the leadership of Scott D'Amore.

After returning to an executive position within the company in 2017 thanks to Jeff Jarrett, Scott would eventually gain even more control following Double J's exit from the company, as he and Don Callis would become the new top brass within Impact. With Callis later leaving for an on-screen role in AEW, Scott D'Amore would be promoted to the sole EVP of Impact Wrestling, with him helping to improve the brand in many ways.
10 Most Championships In The Company Feel Prestigious
An area of concern that has plagued both TNA & Impact Wrestling has been the state of its championships. Since TNA launched in 2002, while Championships have played important roles to the wrestling, more often than not, the belts would either just be seen as props or would be passed back and forth without care. Under Scott's leadership, the company has made great strides in adding a level of prestiege to most of their titles, namely the X Division Championship thanks to runs from Trey Miguel, Mike Bailey, and Ace Austin, the latter of whom wore the belt throughout 2022's Best of the Super Juniors in Japan.
On top of the X Division being elevated, Deonna Purrazzo, Mickie James, and Jordynne Grace's respective runs with the Knockouts Championship and Josh Alexander's all-time great, record-setting reign as Impact World Champion, helped to boost the importance of those belts as well.
9 D'Amore Has Made Great Roster Additions
While many fans rolled their eyes when Impact Wrestling announced that Steve Maclin, one of the members of The Forgotten Sons, had been signed to the company, Scott D'Amore's booking proved everyone wrong. Since coming into the company, Maclin has proven himself to be far more than WWE ever pegged him to be as a midcard tag-team wrestler, with Maclin having climbed the mountain in Impact since his arrival, delivering great performance after great performance before becoming Impact World Champion.
Maclin is only one case as well, with a number of great signings being made that have helped elevate Impact's current roster, with names such as Killer Kelly, Masha Slamovich, Chris Bey, Black Taurus, PCO, and KiLynn King all standing out as great gets for Impact Wrestling.
8 Match Quality Has Improved
With the strength and depth of the Impact Wrestling roster having grown, so has the match quality within the company. Across every division, aside from the Knockouts Tag Team Scene, the wrestling has improved in recent years in Impact Wrestling, with great matches regularly occuring in the X Division, Knockouts Division, Tag Team Division, and Impact World Championship scene. Combined with Impact's great storytelling, the company has crafted a great combination of strong wrestling and solid storylines for their on-screen product.
7 Weekly TV Feels Important
Since AEW launched in 2019, it has been praised for making most weeks feel must-watch with its weekly AEW Dynamite show, especially compared to the slog of a 3-hour episode of Monday Night Raw. Similarly, Impact has begun to make their TV episodes feel important, filling them with a mix of storyline developments and great matches as a way to please both casual fans and hardcore audiences alike. 2022 would see Impact put together a number of Match of the Year Contenders, with two coming from weekly TV episodes in the form of Chris Sabin vs Frankie Kazarian and Josh Alexander vs Speedball Mike Bailey respectively.
6 Impact's PPVs Have Become Must-Watch
While many wrestling fans have praised AEW for having PPVs worth dropping money on, Tony Khan's company is not the only one whose PPV events feel must-watch. 2022 would see Impact Wrestling knock it out of the park with each of their big PPV events, as Hard To Kill, Rebellion, Slammiversary, and Bound for Glory all delivered as some of the best shows of the entire year.
Elsewhere, the company would host monthly Impact+ Specials that also came off extremely strong, with a number of high profile shows being truly exceptional, including Emergence, Against All Odds, and Sacrifice. In short, Scott D'Amore has made sure to make shows that fans are paying for feel worth the price of admission.
5 The Knockouts Division Is Better Than Ever
While women's wrestling has become a hot button topic within wrestling, as many feel that neither Triple H or Tony Khan are giving their women's rosters a fair shake, Impact Wrestling is a promotion where women's wrestling has begun to thrive. After facing a bit of a lull period, things would turn around for the division in 2020, with the debut of Deonna Purrazzo. Things would excell from there, as the division would find its identity through stalwarts in the form of Deonna, Jordynne Grace, and Mickie James being groomed as the leaders.

In 2023, the division feels more alive than ever, with some of the most talented women working in North America including Purrazzo, Grace, & James, alongside other names such as Masha Slamovich, Killer Kelly, Tasha Steelz, Jody Threat, Taylor Wilde, & KiLynn King.
4 The Company Has Great Storylines
While having a strong in-ring product is a must for wrestling promotions, having great stories is equally important. Every storyline and feud are not always going to leave the crowds wanting more, though it is better to try to deliver as many memorable stories as possible than to not, and under Scott, the company has had a fair share of big-time storylines.
In recent years, a number of standout stories have seen the reign of The Virtuosa, with Deonna Purrazzo becoming a multi-time Knockout Champion, Mickie James' Last Rodeo Tour, a shockingly good storyline between Bully Ray & Josh Alexander, a six-month long story between Moose & Josh Alexander for the Impact World Championship, and Kenny Omega's invasion and capture of the Impact World Championship.
3 Working Relationships Have Been Rebuilt
One of the most fun aspects about wrestling outside of the WWE Bubble nowadays is the working relationships between various promotions. In 2020, fans saw the walls come crashing down for AEW, as Tony Khan would begin working with New Japan and Impact Wrestling, with AEW now branching off into AEW, TJPW, AAA, Defy, and a number of other promotions as well. This would not be the first time a modern wrestling company attempted to open the Forbidden Door however, as TNA & NJPW had a working relationship years ago, that ultimately crumbled due to TNA booking New Japan talents poorly.

Under Scott D'Amore, Impact has once again been able to forge connections in the wrestling world, with Impact & NJPW having one of the strongest working relationships around right now, running co-branded events, having New Japan wrestlers working TV & PPV dates, and even sending X Division stars to work in NJPW's Junior Heavyweight Division!
2 New Main Eventers Have Been Built
While Scott D'Amore did not create the entire current crop of talents occupying the main event scene within Impact Wrestling, his booking of the product has helped grow them into the performers they are today. Notably, looking at wrestlers such as Moose or Sami Callihan, who often felt like lacking in various areas of their craft, have stepped up under D'Amore's leadership, becoming well-rounded main event-level wrestlers.
Most recently, Steve Maclin and Josh Alexander have been elevated into World Champion material, with Alexander's meteoric rise to the top prize in the company not only being one of the best stories in Impact's history, but leading to arguably the best World Championship reign of 2022 in any company. Now, Steve Maclin has risen to the occasion, after years of being treated like fodder in the WWE system, as he has proven to be a great, world-class wrestler in D'Amore's Impact Wrestling.
1 D'Amore Has Bet Big On The Future
One area of criticism that has remained with WWE for years has been the company's failure to get behind their young stars, in favor of booking part-timers and superstars from the past as the main attractions instead. The same could have been said about TNA in years past, though under Scott D'Amore, change has come to Impact Wrestling, as through his booking, he has bet big on the future, building the company around younger talent.
While there have been cases of running with legends at the top of the card in the cases of Eric Young & Mickie James, most of Impact's recent featured players have been on the younger side, with Scott betting big in favor of the young talent in his promotion, with names such as Jordynne Grace, Masha Slamovich, Killer Kelly, Ace Austin, Chris Bey, Trey Miguel, Mike Bailey, Deonna Purrazzo, and Steve Maclin all being under 35 years old. The future of Impact Wrestling remains very, very bright.
