13 Bold Predictions For WWE SummerSlam 2023
Mia Russell In July 2022, WWE SummerSlam was one of the biggest PPV/PLE events of the year. With it being the first big event under Triple H's reign as the head of creative of WWE, this was the first look for wrestling fans at what WWE would look like under HHH's booking control.

One year later, the company will look for another big event with SummerSlam weekend 2023 taking place at Ford Field in Detroit. With WrestleMania 39 now in the rearview mirror, fans are already looking ahead to some of WWE's upcoming major shows. With five months to go, these are some early bold predictions for what is in store at this year's SummerSlam.
10 The Tag Team Titles Get Another Spotlight
For the first-time ever, the WWE Tag Team Championships would be featured in the main event of WrestleMania as The Usos would put their titles on the line against the fan favorite team of Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn. The two teams would put together an all-time classic main event, stunning the crowd and delivering a fantastic story & match.
At SummerSlam, it seems unlikely that the tag titles will get top billing, though it does seem totally fair to predict that they will get a bigger spotlight than in previous years. While there is a chance Zayn & Owens lose their gold by the time WWE rolls into Detroit, whatever the match may be, the tag titles deserve to shine at SummerSlam.
9 Becky Lynch Faces Trish Stratus
Despite being one of the biggest names in WWE right now, Becky Lynch certainly has not feel like one. After randomly winning the WWE Women's Tag Team Championship alongside Lita, it seemed as if Becky was in a bit of a holding pattern during WrestleMania season.

Recently, Lynch felt the sting of a heel turn from the WWE Hall of Famer, Trish Stratus, as she would take out Lita, taking her place as Becky's partner as the two would lose their tag titles to the makeshift team of Liv Morgan & Raquel Rodriguez. With Stratus & Lynch on a collision course, this feels like it could be a multi-month feud culminating at SummerSlam. Should the feud be done by then, Lita vs Lynch II could wind up being Becky's big match.
8 Gunther One-On-One With Brock Lesnar
At WrestleMania 39, Gunther would dazzle in a brutal war of a triple threat match alongside Sheamus and Drew McIntyre, with the three men putting on a war on the biggest stage of them all. In the midst of his own historic reign as Intercontinental Championship, Gunther is delivering banger after banger with each title defense and is becoming the workhorse of WWE.
Having already shared his desire for a match against Brock Lesnar, should The Beast's feud with Cody Rhodes reach its end before SummerSlam, a big-time dream match between Brock Lesnar & Gunther should be a priority for WWE while Brock can still go.
7 Edge Will Have His Final WWE Match
WWE had a great chance to elevate Finn Balor once again, and to rehab "The Demon" at WrestleMania 39. They chose to not do that. Losing cleanly to Edge inside Hell in a Cell, Finn Balor would ultimately lose his longtime feud to Edge on the biggest stage of them all. Where does The Rated R Superstar go from there? Edge doesn't really have a clear direction for the rest of 2023, and with Christian Cage making references to Edge in AEW, we could very well see Edge's WWE run come to an end.
Prior to returning in 2020, Edge revealed that he did have talks with Tony Khan about coming to AEW. That would not come to be however, as Edge would return to WWE and has since had a mixed bag of a run. It remains unclear if he will retire in WWE or head to AEW to retire alongside Christian Cage and The Hardy Brothers, but 2023 could very well be the end of Edge in WWE.
6 Rhea Ripley Will Have Her First Major Defense
Defeating Charlotte Flair at WrestleMania 39 in one of the best women's matches in WWE history, Rhea Ripley would become SmackDown Women's Champion three years after Charlotte would defeat her to become NXT Champion. Now firmly established as one of the top women on the main roster, it is time to get to work in building Rhea as a credible champion.
With five months until SummerSlam, Rhea should not be booked like a cowardly heel champion, and instead a dominant fighting heel who is willing to show her dominance against any challenger. At SummerSlam, Rhea will have her first truly big Championship defense, hopefully against someone worthy of the spot.
5 Logan Paul Will Challenge For A Championship
While many fans have valid reasons for disliking Logan Paul as a person, it is hard to deny that he is an extremely talented wrestler when it comes to his matches. Making his debut at last year's WrestleMania, Paul has only had a handful of matches, though each one has been met with acclaim from fans. Having just re-signed with WWE, it seems clear that this is where a large portion of his focus now lies.
It is hard to say where exactly his WWE career is set to go, though a good assumption is that 2023 will be the year that Logan becomes a more regular star on the product, possibly even getting shots at Championship gold once more. Becoming United States Champion this year could be a major accomplishment for Paul, with SummerSlam being a great venue for his first title win.
4 There Will Be At Least One Surprise Return
As Triple H took over creative control for WWE right before SummerSlam 2022, fans would get to know that he loves surprises and roster signings. At SummerSlam, Bayley would make her surprise return, alongside the main roster debut of Iyo Sky, and the reveal that Dakota Kai had been re-hired by the company to form Damage CTRL.

3 Cody Rhodes Will Not Challenge For The World Championship
While some fans have defended the booking of Cody Rhodes' WrestleMania loss, a large portion of fans have voiced their displeasure with the questionable booking choice to have him lose to Roman Reigns. Now embroiled in a marquee feud with Brock Lesnar, it remains to be seen as to where Rhodes' next journey will lead him.
There is a strong chance that Cody could be one of the desired winners of this year's Money in the Bank, though if that is not the case, it seems likely he will be waiting until 2024 to get his next shot at Roman Reigns. That leaves a big question mark in regards to Cody's SummerSlam plans, and though they could very well be something involving him & Brock Lesnar, it seems fair to suggest that he will not be challenging for the World Championship.
2 Bianca Belair Will Lose Her Raw Women's Championship, If She Hasn't Already
Arguably one of the best modern day babyface champions for WWE has been Bianca Belair. Dethroning Becky Lynch at WrestleMania 38, Bianca has had a truly incredible run as one of the most over women in all of pro wrestling. Still, everyone has to lose someday. While Belair has been riding high as of late, it seems like time has to be running out on this title reign. At SummerSlam 2023, Bianca Belair will either lose the Raw Women's Championship, or will have already lost the belt in the months prior. Regardless of her status as champion or not, it seems very likely that Bianca will still be featured on the card in a prominent spot.
1 Roman Reigns Will Win Yet Another Big Defense Against Seth Rollins
While many fans fully expected Roman Reigns' historic reign as WWE Universal Champion to end at WrestleMania 39, that would not be the case, as Reigns would defeat Cody Rhodes in the main event of the biggest show of the year. With Rhodes not embroiled in a feud with Brock Lesnar, it seems as if he and Reigns will not meet again for some time. So where does that leave The Tribal Chief?
WWE has ran through a lot of their biggest names within Reigns' title defense, with Brock Lesnar, Kevin Owens, Sami Zayn, Cody Rhodes, and even Logan Paul having all faced off with Roman for the belt at some point in time. Looking at the roster now, it seems like the most likely SummerSlam challenger for Roman Reigns would be none other than Seth Rollins, with how he and Becky Lynch have been talking about another Rollins vs Reigns match in the media.
