Professional Background

Dr. Adela Rambi G. Cardones is a Tenured Professor and Chief of the DIvision of Dermatology. She is a Clinician-Investigator with expertise in complex medical dermatology. She received her MD from the University of the Philippines as part of the selective Integrated Arts and Medicine (INTARMED) program. She completed her first Dermatology Residency at the University of the Philippines - Philippine General Hospital before pursuing a postdoctoral research fellowship in the laboratory of Dr. Sam T. Hwang at the Dermatology Branch, National Cancer Institute, National Institutes of Health, in Bethesda, MD, where her research focused on the role of chemokines in melanoma metastasis. She completed her second Dermatology Residency at Duke University, in Durham, NC, and served as Chief Resident during her senior year. She was on faculty at Duke University for over a decade, where she ran a subpecialty clinic focusing on autoimmune diseases, fibrosing skin disorders, and cutaneous problems among patients undergoing cancer treatment and bone marrow transplantation. She was the Director of the Duke Inpatient Dermatology Consult Service, and was a member of the Duke Scleroderma Center and the Duke Multidisciplinary Graft-versus-Host Disease clinic. She was Associate Residency Program Director for Research at Duke, and was also the recipient of several teaching awards. She was the recipient of the Dermatology Foundation Career Development Award and has received funding for her work on morphea and graft-versus-host disease. She has experience as principal investigator on both translational studies and clinical trials for immune-mediated diseases. She joined KU Medical Center in 2022.
