Buddy Murphy Wanted To Be Paul Heyman's Judge Dredd
Marcus Reynolds Buddy Murphy wanted to be Paul Heyman's associate on SmackDown, but it sounds like all but one person was keen on implementing the idea.
More than 40 wrestlers have been released by WWE so far in 2021. One of those wrestlers was Buddy Murphy, or Murphy, or wherever WWE had landed on his name by the time he was shown the door. Unsurprising on the one hand since WWE wasn't using him, but very surprising on the other considering every time he was given something to work with, Murphy knocked it out of the park.
The Associate To The Advocate
It sounds like he even had a great idea to further his WWE career before he was eventually let go. Murphy revealed to Chris Van Vliet that he had pitched an idea to Paul Heyman which would have made him the advocate's associate. Not to be a part of Roman Reigns' bloodline, but to work with Heyman as a sort of on-screen side project.

"I don’t take orders from Roman but I do his bidding because Heyman asked me... I’d be like a Judge Dredd, so I was going to be a mixture. Big Boss Man, Judge Dredd for Heyman," Murphy explained. Apparently, Heyman loved the idea, The Usos were on board, and even Triple H wanted to run with it.
An Audience Of One
As you may have already guessed since the above idea never bore fruit, one man didn't like the idea. While Murphy didn't explicitly say Vince McMahon didn't kibosh the idea, he did add that he understands all ideas need to go through one man before they make it to TV. Since Murphy as Heyman's Judge Dredd never did, it can only be assumed the idea was floated by the boss and he didn't like it.
Murphy has instead been released and the next stage of his career will likely lie elsewhere. Impact appears to be the most likely landing point for the Australian star right now. Slammiversary takes place tonight and as was the case last year, the show will almost definitely feature a few of the stars who were released a few months ago showing up and officially beginning the next chapters of their careers.
