Dolph Ziggler Provides Update On His Contract Status
Emma Horne There are many questions surrounding the future of WWE superstar Dolph Ziggler, with most of them unanswered - but 'The Showoff' has finally provided an update.
Earlier reports suggested that Ziggler had signed a new two-year, $1.5 million deal with the WWE. But in a recent interview with Nathan Ryan of Fox Sports, Ziggler denied those reports.
“I would love to get into that more but based on the internet, they told you I’d re-signed and I have not,” Ziggler said, while adding that he continues to try and hammer out a new deal with WWE.
Per Ryan, Ziggler could earn north of $2 million in his next contracts, when you throw in pay-per-view buys and other merchandise sales. The 37-year-old Ziggler also provided an update as to why he's been off of television for large portions of the past calendar year.
“I’ve asked before to go away for a little while just so everyone can forget I lose 99 times out of 100 and it’s never really come through, so I might have to do it on my own and see what happens," Ziggler said.
Ziggler was taken off of television for nearly two months last summer, as WWE repackaged him into a character that mocked the intros of WWE legends like The Undertaker and Shawn Michaels, among others. He won the United States Championship at Clash of Champions, but ripped the WWE Universe and said they "didn't deserve him," on the next episode of SmackDown Live.
Ziggler then relinquished his championship and walked out, not to return until he was the final entry in the Royal Rumble pay-per-view. He has since only appeared on television sporadically, but he will be participating in the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal at WrestleMania 34.
It's been a very strange year for Ziggler's television character, and many fans have been left wondering what's really going on. Now, it looks like we have near-confirmation that he'll be signing a contract and stay on with the WWE - despite admitting before that he was unhappy and wanted to leave.
