Edge Gives A Potential Timeline On Retirement
Emily Bell It's been over two years since WWE legend Edge made a thrilling return to the ring at the Royal Rumble 2020 pay-per-view.
A serious neck injury forced Edge to retire at the age of 37 back in 2011, after successfully defending the World Heavyweight Championship over Alberto Del Rio at WrestleMania 27. In an emotional segment, The Rated-R Superstar announced his in-ring retirement on the Apr. 11, 2011 edition of Raw.
But leading up to the 2019 Royal Rumble, Edge quietly worked on a return to the ring after receiving the green light to resume wrestling. The WWE Hall of Famer initially denied speculation that he was coming back, but this was obviously just a ploy to avoid spoiling the surprise.
Edge would return to wrestling at the 30-man Royal Rumble pay-per-view on Jan. 26, 2020. Fast forward to April 2022, and Edge is still going strong in the ring at the age of 48. He doesn't look like somebody who is nearing the end of retirement, but The Ultimate Opportunist is warning fans that he won't be wrestling too much longer.
During an interview on Steven of Steven's Wrestling Adventure (h/t Fightful.com), Edge offered a rough timeline on when he plans to retire from in-ring competition.
"Won't be ten (years), definitely won't be ten," Edge said. "I doubt it'll be five, it's gonna be before that. I don't even think it's going to be three. I don't know, but I don't think it's going to be that long. I know the window is small."

Edge is coming off a victory over AJ Styles at WrestleMania 38, thanks to some assistance from Priest. After the match, Priest revealed that he was now in an alliance with The Ultimate Opportunist. So it looks like the Styles-Edge program will continue past WrestleMania.
Enjoy Edge While He's Here
With that timeline, Edge will retire at some point in his early 50s. Retired legends from Edge's era like Steve Austin, The Undertaker, Triple H, Shawn Michaels and Batista and The Rock were all done wrestling by their early to mid-50s. Michaels retired at the age of 45 but came back for one more match eight years later at Crown Jewel 2018.
So that feels like a fair retirement timeline for Edge. Of course, things can always change. Perhaps he'll have the passion to continue well past the "small" window of less than five years, or it could be even sooner. The bottom line is that WWE fans need to enjoy Edge while he's still active.
