Explaining All Luke Gallows’ Returns & Exits From WWE
Emma Horne Quick Links
Luke Gallows is someone who has appeared in multiple different eras of WWE, with him slowly developing quite an interesting career with championships won all across the globe. Most notably as a tag team star, he has achieved his fair share of success both in and out of WWE, though this has come in multiple different stints. Much like some others, Gallows has made several exits and returns when it comes to WWE, and when looking at this track record, he could well make more in the future too. Some fans may wonder why he has used the door in and out of WWE on more than one occasion.
Luke Gallows Was Released After Five Years In WWE
Luke Gallows’ WWE career began all the way back in 2005 when he was signed to WWE developmental, with his first main roster appearances seeing him undertake the role of “imposter Kane”. A year or so later, he was repackaged as “Festus”, which was more or less intended to be a comedic character of a docile and mostly unresponsive person who turned into a monster when the bell rang. This thankfully came to an end, and he was brought back as “Luke Gallows”.

Gallows became a member of CM Punk’s Straight Edge Society, and despite his strong performances, he was never seen as a major player, and often played a punching bag to Punk’s rivals. Towards the end of 2010, WWE released an array of performers who they deemed surplus to requirements, with Gallows included in that bunch, putting an end to his first run in WWE. He would take his talents to the independent scene, where he worked hard to make a name for himself.
Luke Gallows Made His Way Back To WWE Eventually Before Being Let Go Due To Budget Cuts
He wrestled in the likes of TNA before joining forces with The Bullet Club in NJPW, teaming up with Karl Anderson to create the “Good Brothers” tag team. They won the World Tag League and later the IWGP Tag Team Titles, establishing themselves as one of the top teams on the planet. They were seen as hard-nosed and badass, with their role in the Bullet Club a prominent one too. Any memory of his time as Festus was firmly in the past.

In 2016, after Bullet Club leader AJ Styles joined WWE, he was soon followed by Gallows and Anderson, whose reputations had earned them interest from the company. WWE’s purge of NJPW’s top talent continued as they made their debut to a large ovation. Unfortunately, despite their talents and quality, WWE’s tag team division has often left a lot to be desired, and they struggled to really find a place on the roster.
For the next four years, the pair meandered around Raw and SmackDown, sometimes teaming up with AJ Styles and Finn Balor, both as heels and babyfaces, in addition to winning a couple Tag Team Titles too. However, their personalities were rarely given a chance to shine through, and it is hard to pinpoint any notable feuds that the pair had over that time. By the time 2020 rolled around, they were once again at the side of AJ Styles in The O.C. faction, aiding him in his feud against The Undertaker. After being disposed of at WrestleMania 36, it was shortly announced that the pair were released from WWE amidst budget cuts. This caused some backlash as AJ Styles blamed Paul Heyman for this, as he supposedly failed to make enough effort to secure them their jobs.
The Good Brothers Made A Surprising WWE Return In 2022
The Good Brothers managed to quickly find a home in Impact Wrestling, before also appearing in AEW as members of The Elite, and also in NJPW too as they rejoined The Bullet Club. Although they weren’t as hot as they once were due to their stock falling a lot in WWE, they managed to make some strides, winning gold. In 2022, however, despite Anderson winning the NEVER Openweight Championship, they showed up in WWE once again.

After previously signing big money deals but then getting let go of, it felt like the pair would never return to WWE. However, money talks, especially when it emerged that Vince McMahon was no longer running things in WWE. They once again aligned with AJ Styles, though Anderson has been allowed to continue his duties in NJPW until he loses his title. Gallows is someone who has unfortunately been fired twice by WWE, but looking at how he has managed to get re-signed twice, it shows that he always manages to bounce back and make himself relevant. Their current run in WWE hasn’t been too special thus far, but fans can hope that they make their presence known in the tag team division again soon.
