How To Catch Shiny Pokémon Through Breeding (Masuda Method)
Marcus Reynolds The Masuda Method allows Pokémon BDSP players to find Shiny Pokémon through Breeding. They will need to find an international Pokémon first.
There is a way to increase the chance of breeding a Shiny in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. As players progress through the Sinnoh region, they will eventually reach Solaceon Town. In this town, there will be a Pokémon Day Care where trainers are able to leave two Pokémon behind. If these two Pokémon are compatible, it will make an Egg that players can hatch by walking around. When hatching these Eggs, the Pokémon has a 1/4096 chance of being Shiny. Although, the Masuda Method can be used to increase these odds.
The Masuda Method is a fan-made term for increasing the chances of finding a Shiny Pokémon through breeding. It's named after Game Freak director, Junichi Masuda, who mentioned it on his blog back in 2007. The thing that makes this method so interesting is that one of the Pokémon placed in the Day Care will need to be from a different language of origin. This is to push trainers to trade Pokémon using the game's trade system. It has been a staple for the series since the original release of Pokémon Diamond and Pearl.
After finding a Pokémon from another region of the world, trainers can begin to breed for a Shiny Pokémon. Trainers should aim to find a Ditto of another language because Ditto can breed with almost any Pokémon in existence, making it the most ideal choice to use when breeding for Shiny Pokémon. In an example scenario, the player will place the international Ditto and the Pokémon they wish to receive the Shiny form of. In this case, it will be Piplup. With both the Ditto and Piplup in the Day Care Center, it will eventually leave behind an Egg. Because the Ditto is from another country, the Shiny Odds have been increased from 1/4096 to 1/682. This is an incredible buff but there is a way to further increase it.
Unlocking The Shiny Charm in Pokémon BDSP
The Shiny Charm is an item that will increase the Shiny Odds of Pokémon that come from Eggs exclusively. If players are using the Masuda Method and collect the Shiny Charm, the odds will increase from 1/692 to 1/512. In order to unlock it, trainers will need to complete their National Dex. After capturing all 493 Pokémon, go to the Game Director's House located at Hotel Grand Lake. Go inside and speak with Morimoto, at the end of the conversation, he will reward the player with the Shiny Charm.
1/512 is fairly low when hunting for Shiny Pokémon. Although, if players use the Chain Capturing Method in Pokémon BDSP, they can bring the odds down to a staggering 1/99. Pokémon BDSP has tons of different Shiny Hunting methods to keep it interesting. Although, no matter the method, they all require patience as Shiny Hunting can range from a few minutes to several months. It ultimately depends on the player's luck.
