HBO's sleeper hit Hacks seems to borrow extensively from real life. Here's how much of the comedy drama series is based on a true story.

Hacks is about the story of two comedians from very different generations of stand-up comedy, and many viewers have asked whether or not Hacks is based on a true story. Hacks, which was released as part of HBO Max's May 2022 series roster, tells the tale of the fictional comedy legend Deborah Vance. Deborah's experiences in the comedic world notably borrow much from the real history of comedy.
