Is Tom Holland's Spider-Man In Venom 3?
Emma Powell Eddie Brock will return in Venom 3, and while he might finally cross paths with a Spider-Man, it probably won't be Tom Holland's Web-Slinger.
Summary
- Tom Holland's Spider-Man is unlikely to appear in Venom 3, despite speculation and the introduction of the multiverse in Spider-Man: No Way Home.
- The filming of Venom 3 was affected by the 2023 Hollywood strikes, but no public hints have been given about Holland's Spider-Man appearing in the film.
- While another version of Spider-Man could potentially show up in Venom 3, it doesn't make narrative sense for Tom Holland's Peter Parker to be included. Other possibilities include Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man or the introduction of Miles Morales.
Tom Hardy's Venom has yet to battle a Spider-Man, and with Venom 3 on the way for Sony's Marvel movie franchise, the question of whether Tom Holland's Peter Parker will appear has been raised. The Sony-produced Venom movies are a wild card in the modern superhero movie landscape, with Eddie Brock and his alien symbiote occupying their own universe outside the MCU, despite Venom's iconography in Marvel Comics. While other Sony Marvel films like Morbius and Kraven the Hunter are in the same universe, Spider-Man himself has not yet had any kind of presence in Sony's Marvel villain universe.
Venom 3 will be a bit different in that it is arriving after 2021's Spider-Man: No Way Home, which threw open the doors of the multiverse to bring multiple generations of Spider-Man villains and all three live-action Peter Parkers together. Between this and the brief appearance of Tom Hardy's Venom in No Way Home, speculation has grown more rampant that a Spider-Man will finally enter the picture in Venom 3. Despite the abundance of Web-Slingers in the Spider-Verse who could show up in Venom 3, Tom Holland's Spider-Man is the least likely for several reasons.
Tom Holland's Spider-Man Is Not Set To Appear In Venom 3 At This Time
Venom 3 is one of many Hollywood productions to commence filming before the 2023 Hollywood strikes and had to shut down as a result of them. Only a few members of the Venom 3 cast have been publicly announced, namely Juno Temple and Chiwetel Ejiofor (whose respective roles remain unrevealed.) Despite this, there have been no public hints by Sony Pictures or Marvel Studios of Tom Holland's Spider-Man appearing in Venom 3.
That does not necessarily rule out that Holland could indeed web-sling his way into the third Venom film. Surprise cameos and crossovers are commonplace in contemporary superhero movies, especially with the multiverse era of superhero franchises making different versions of characters easier than ever to place in the same story. However, even with an opening like that for Holland to appear, his Spider-Man popping up in Sony's Venom franchise makes little sense from a narrative standpoint.
Why Tom Holland Doesn't Make Sense For The Sony Spider-Man Universe
While Eddie Brock and the Venom symbiote are transported into the MCU at the end of Venom: Let There Be Carnage, they don't stick around for long. Eddie and Venom appear briefly in Spider-Man: No Way Home's post-credits scene, with Eddie deciding he should meet Spider-Man only for him and Venom to be pulled back into their universe. Though a fragment of the Venom symbiote is left behind, this scene makes clear that Hardy's Venom and Holland's Spider-Man are unlikely to meet anytime soon.
Theoretically, Holland's Spider-Man could be brought into Sony's Spider-Man villain universe. Still, with Peter Parker being wiped from the world's memory in No Way Home, both Sony and Marvel clearly have much bigger priorities for him. A multiversal variant of Holland's Spidey could also appear in Venom 3, but this would be an excessively convoluted way to get Holland's Peter Parker into a movie that does not innately demand his presence. That leaves the question of which Wall-Crawler is destined to cross webs with Hardy's Venom.
Which Spider-Man Makes Sense For Venom 3
With Venom being one of Spider-Man's most beloved antagonists, it is inevitable that a Spider-Man will eventually appear in Sony's universe of Spider-Man villains. With Tobey Maguire's Spidey having already battled his own Venom (Topher Grace) in 2007's Spider-Man 3, Andrew Garfield is the most likely of No Way Home's three Peters to meet Hardy's Venom. Whether by multiversal gateways being opened or The Amazing Spider-Man films being retconned as being in the same universe as the Venom films, Garfield's Spidey meeting Hardy's Venom could be the perfect showdown of Wall-Crawlers (especially with calls for such a crossover already happening.)
Venom 3 could also potentially introduce a new Peter Parker altogether, while there is also the distinct possibility that Miles Morales is the Spider-Man Hardy's Venom meets. With Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse introducing hundreds of Spideys, the movie also canonizes live-action Spider-Verses as part of its multiversal web. Furthermore, the movie even includes a cameo by Mrs. Chen (Peggy Lu) of the Venom films. That could hint at Miles making an appearance in Venom 3, but whether it's him, Garfield's Spidey, or another one altogether, Tom Holland's Spider-Man can most likely be ruled out.
