Andrew Burkle, the son of billionaire investor Ronald Burkle, who has extensive entertainment interests, has been found dead in his Beverly Hills home, according to a report. He was 27.

“‘It is with the deepest regret and sadness that we announce the death of Andrew C. Burkle on January 6, 2020, in Beverly Hills, California,” a Burkle family spokesman on Tuesday told The Hollywood Reporter in a statement after People magazine first reported his death.

The statement, which gave no cause of death, added: “He is deeply loved by his family and friends and will be greatly missed. Andrew was known as a young man full of life and entrepreneurial energy. Everyone he met commented on his humble demeanor and strong work ethic.”

Burkle is survived by his father, mother Janet Duitson, sister Carrie Harr and brother John Burkle. “While the family appreciates the outpouring of love and support, they ask that their privacy be respected during this difficult time,” the statement states.

Burkle had an associate producer credit for the 2019 feature comedy Airplane Mode, according to IMDb.

He was apparently found dead in his Los Angeles home at around 7:26 p.m. on Monday night, a spokesman for the Beverly Hills Police Department told People.

Ronald Burkle runs the Los Angeles-based private equity firm Yucaipa Companies, which invested in the failed entertainment firm Relativity Media and was a partner in the original consortium looking to buy Harvey Weinstein’s former company, The Weinstein Co. 

Yucaipa in 2018 sued Lantern Entertainment (later becoming Spyglass Media) after it completed a $289 million deal for TWC.

The elder Burkle is also a part owner of the NHL’s Pittsburgh Penguins. Fellow team co-owner Mario Lemieux in his own statement expressed shock and sadness at the passing of Andrew Burkle.

“Drew was a bright, creative, energetic young man with a dynamic future ahead of him. Everyone in our organization knows that he was such a big part of his Dad’s life, and one of the many things they shared together was their love of Penguins hockey. My friend Ron knows that we are here if he needs us. Our hearts are heavy,” said Lemieux.
