Security Breach's Clever Chuck E. Cheese Easter Eggs
Mia Russell It's no secret that Five Nights at Freddy's was inspired by Chuck E. Cheese, and FNAF: Security Breach has more than a few hidden references to it.
The FNAF series has never been shy about the fact that it's based off of the popular arcade franchise Chuck E. Cheese, and Five Nights at Freddy's: Security Breach has a couple of Easter eggs that reference the darker rumors that have surrounded it. There's a lot in Security Breach that's not as it seems, and not every reference is related to past titles or lore. Even the most innocuous or minor details could be tied into something bigger, so fans have to look closely to see every joke and little nod that there is.
The basis of the FNAF games is that the signature animatronics are possessed by the souls of children that were murdered by one of the restaurants' founders. This trend is broken in the newest game, but it's unknown if this is why FNAF: Security Breach has the series' lowest ratings. The timeline is confusing, and everything that leads up to the games' events is perhaps even more so, but something that remains clear is that Freddy Fazbear's Mega Pizzaplex is no ordinary pizza joint. The Chuck E. Cheese restaurants have had sinister or shady rumors and urban legends surrounding them in the past, and some have found themselves in FNAF: Security Breach.
There are two big Easter eggs in FNAF: Security Breach that reference Chuck. E Cheese rumors. One is the disgusting practice of recycling uneaten pizza, which was a popular (although disproven) rumor that circulated online years ago. The other is the infamous "kids in the wall" creepypasta from a few years ago that suggested kids were abducted and kept in the walls of Chuck E. Cheese restaurants. Of course, these rumors aren't true in the slightest, but FNAF: Security Breach references them in clever ways.
FNAF: Security Breach's Chuck E. Cheese References
In 2019, a rumor surfaced that Chuck E. Cheese was reserving old pizza that customers hadn't eaten. This was due to the fact that some customers noticed that the pizzas didn't quite form a perfect circle when brought out. The veracity of this is debatable, but in FNAF: Security Breach, it's referenced in one of many collectibles. A complaint from an angry customer states that the slices of her pizza didn't fit together or were different sizes and that one slice even had different toppings from the rest, which is clearly a nod to this Chuck E. Cheese rumor.
Another old Chuck E. Cheese scare is "kids in the wall." Chuck E. Cheese is a popular establishment, and it's naturally attracted its fair share of rumors. One of them is that at some point, some kids disappeared into the walls of one of its restaurants and never came back out. Compared to other FNAF games, Security Breach is much bigger and more open, so it can fit in more references to things like this. Players can sometimes hear children crying through the air vents of certain parts of the Pizzaplex if they listen hard enough. Some might say that this is Roxanne crying after Gregory steals her eyes, but apparently it starts before then.
Chuck E. Cheese has gone through a few different rebrandings in the time it's been in business. The most recent iteration of Charles Entertainment Cheese is as a cartoonish mouse with a stylish T-shirt and jeans, and this might have inspired the designs for the new animatronics. The returning ones were revamped to look cool and stylish, and the new ones are the same way. Although the aesthetic of the game is more '90s or '80s than anything, it's still an interesting parallel. Five Nights at Freddy's: Security Breach just might have more in common with its real-life inspiration than most fans know.
