Should Sebastian Take The Relic?
Emily Bell Sebastian Sallow's quests in Hogwarts Legacy present some challenging dilemmas, such as choosing whether he should take the dark relic or not.
Summary
- During "In The Shadow Of Time," players must decide whether to let Sebastian Sallow take the relic, a choice that may not come easily for those trying to avoid dark arts.
- Learning the mind control spell Imperio is a big opportunity in Hogwarts Legacy, however.
- Regardless of the player's dialogue choice, Sebastian will always take the relic, and it won't impact character relationships or the outcome of the quest. Players can choose what suits their character best.
During "In The Shadow Of Time," players will be faced with one of the hardest choices in Hogwarts Legacy: whether to let Sebastian Sallow take the relic, or to convince him to leave it. The main decision here really comes down to roleplaying choices - and just how much of a dark witch or wizard the player would like to become. Luckily, for those worried about making the wrong choice, the solution to this Hogwarts Legacy dilemma is actually quite simple.
Letting Sebastian have the relic or not isn't the only choice students will have to make during "In The Shadow Of Time," though. It's the sole opportunity to learn Imperio, the mind control spell, and even though becoming a Hogwarts Legacy dark wizard has pros and cons, this Unforgivable Curse can be a tremendous help in combat. It's not required to learn Imperio to progress the quest, but this is an exclusive chance to learn the dark spell. After all, just like choosing whether Sebastian should take the relic in Hogwarts Legacy, it's something that warrants a bit of extra consideration. Passing on the oppurtunity will mean the player doesn't learn Imperio. It's not a necessary spell for beating the game, but it can be quite useful.
Sebastian Sallow Will Take The Relic In Hogwarts Legacy
No Matter The Choice, Sebastion Always Takes The Relic
Regardless of which dialogue option the player chooses, it won't affect the outcome of the situation, because Sebastian will always end up taking the relic. If the player encourages him to proceed with his plan, he'll unsurprisingly agree and take the relic. However, if they interject and express their second thoughts, Sebastian will emphasize that it's for the sake of his sister Anne. He'll move forward with taking the relic regardless.
This may seem like one of Hogwarts Legacy's most important choices, but it's really not. The decision to let Sebastian have the relic is rather misleading because it initially appears as though the player will be able to sway Sebastian Sallow's story in either direction. However, this really isn't the case since Sebastian ends up with the relic regardless of which choice the player makes.
Hogwarts Legacy Dialogue Doesn't Affect Character Relationships
Turning Down Sebastion Won't Affect The Story Or Characters
In fact, the only real impact that either dialogue option will have is a comment from Ominis Gaunt, who has been eavesdropping on the player and Sebastian's conversations during "In The Shadow Of Time." If players tell Sebastian to take the relic in Hogwarts Legacy, Ominis will make his disappointment clear, taking up a bit of an attitude with the protagonist. However, his negative reaction won't actually impact the friendship or story whatsoever. Players won't be barred from any choices or actions at any point during the quest, regardless of whether they side with Sebastian over the relic.
In other words, it doesn't matter in the slightest whether players let Sebastian take the relic during "In The Shadow Of Time." The dialogue, characters, and story will stay the same. The only real outcome that can change happens earlier - with choosing to learn Imperio or not. This means the decision over the relic is really more of a roleplaying choice. Players who are trying to avoid the dark arts completely will likely want to do what's morally right. However, those who don't mind gray areas - or who want to be downright evil - will certainly want to learn Imperio and use it often.
This is certainly a missed opportunity in Hogwarts Legacy, but the reality of the situation is that the player's input doesn't affect the outcome. This can be great for those worried about changing too much of the story (since it really changes nothing). Players should feel free to make whichever choice suits their character or personality best.
