Jon Kent's partner won over a key figure in both the DC Universe and Superman's life. Readers should follow suit and let Jay Nakamura win them over.

Over the course of Superman: Son of Kal-El, the road to endear Jon Kent's new boyfriend into the hearts of millions around the world reading has been a tumultuous road, but it seems Jay Nakamura has already won over those in the DC Universe. If nothing else, he most certainly has won over the heart of one key figure in both the DC Universe and Jon Kent's life: Robin himself, Damian Wayne.

After sharing their first kiss in the previous issue, Jon Kent and Jay Nakamura collaborate to overthrow a dictator in Superman: Son of Kal-El #6 by Tom Taylor, John Timms, Hi-Fi, and Dave Sharpe. After Jay offers the origin story of how the President Bendix of Gamorra played a role in him getting his powers, and how he's tortured a nation of people including Jay's mother, Jon agreed that they're best suited to break into his facility to figure out the full extent of his plans. They aren't alone, as unbeknownst to them, Jon's best friend Damian Wayne is already there trying to unearth the conspiracy himself.

Robin and Jay don't exactly get on the best first foot as they nearly come to blows before realizing they share an ally with Superman. Afterward, though, Robin almost immediately warms up to Jay. In fact, using that classic Bat-family intuition, Damian is able to easily decipher that Jon and Jay are dating, and he approves, telling Jon he's happy for him. And really, so should the rest of the world.

When DC Comics first announced that Jon Kent would be coming out as bisexual at some point during Superman: Son of Kal-El, the news came with its own fair share of both supporters and critics. When Superman shared his first kiss with Jay in Superman: Son of Kal-El #5, the global reaction appeared to be just as divisive. However, if there was ever a character who could, or at least should, be able to convince an audience to support this new direction in Jon Kent's life, it is Damian Wayne.

It's not easy for any member of the Bat family to warm up to anyone in their lives. Maybe it's a family trait or maybe it's the shared trauma of watching everyone they love die, but Batman nor his foster children are willing to give their loving approval to anyone so quickly. Damian didn't even warm up to his own best friend, Jon, so fast upon their initial meeting, but he likes Jay almost immediately. Those critics divided on Superman's new partner could learn a thing or two from Damian Wayne by warming up to Jay Nakamura sooner rather than later.
