The Main Characters, Ranked By Basketball Ability
Marcus Reynolds From cartoon rabbits to NBA MVPs, Space Jam: A New Legacy is filled with great basketball players.
While Space Jam: A New Legacy is full of Looney Tunes antics and references to other movies, it is ultimately a sports film that centers around a climactic basketball game between the Tune Squad and the villainous Goon Squad.
The basketball ability of the characters falls all over the spectrum, with some of them failing to score even a single time while others are able to put up hundreds of points. However, some of the underdogs prove to be even better than the professionals. From cartoon rabbits to NBA MVPs, Space Jam: A New Legacy is filled with great basketball players.
10 White Mamba
Diana Taurasi is one of the most accomplished players in WNBA history and her Dom Ball avatar, the White Mamba, has all of her basketball abilities in addition to snake-like powers.
She is as quick and agile as a snake and her long tail gives her an extra length advantage. She is able to wrap up her opponents with her tail while simultaneously dribbling and shooting with her upper body. The White Mamba is not the star of the Goon Squad, but she does contribute several big plays.
9 Bugs Bunny
As the captain of the Tune Squad, Bugs Bunny is instrumental in their victory over the Goon Squad. As one of the best characters in Space Jam: A New Legacy, he is a strong leader that brings the team together.
While he does not tap into his zany abilities as much as some of the other Looney Tunes do, he still demonstrates good basketball ability and even better teamwork, performing LeBron James' signature move to create a glitch, risking getting deleted in the process.
8 Wet-Fire
Wet-Fire possesses one of the most unique skill sets as he is able to take the form of either water or a fireball in addition to having the shooting ability of NBA superstar Klay Thompson.
In his fire form, he is nearly unstoppable, torching his opponents and moving at a blazing speed, literally setting Gossamer on fire when he steals the ball from him. In his water form, he is basically unguardable, dissolving into a puddle in order to get past defenders. This combination of diverse skills makes him a lethal offensive force.
7 Arachnneka
With former WNBA MVP Nneka Ogwumike's basketball abilities as the base, Arachnneka also has six additional arms and the ability to spin webs, making her one of the best players on the Goon Squad.
She is able to use her extra arms to pull off disorienting dribble moves and can also use her webs to either grab hold of the ball or trap her opponents. In one memorable scene, she gives her team a huge lead by climbing on top of the scoreboard and using her many arms to throw the ball off of LeBron James' face, catch it, and put it through the hoop over and over again.
6 Road Runner
While the Road Runner is typically a secondary Looney Tunes character, often appearing in separate shorts with Wile E. Coyote, he is one of the better players on the Tune Squad due to his lightning-fast speed and cartoonish ingenuity.
When he gets the ball, he is able to sprint past the opposition and score an easy layup. Additionally, he and Wile E. Coyote work together to activate a machine that multiplies the basketball and launches it into the hoop, scoring dozens of points in mere seconds.
5 Granny
While Granny does not get a lot of playing time, she certainly shows off some impressive ability in the time that she does get. During the Tune Squad's disastrous practice scrimmage, Granny is the only one who manages to actually score, shattering the backboard with a dunk.
In one of the many pop culture references in Space Jam: A New Legacy, Granny uses the skills she learned from her time in The Matrix to go one on one with Chronos. She uses bullet time to slow him down and sabotage his time pad, aging him over 100 years before kicking the ball into the hoop.
4 Lola Bunny
While the other Looney Tunes were having fun hopping around the Serververse, Lola Bunny was busy forming an unlikely friendship with Wonder Woman and training with her on Themyscira. Her training pays off as Lola continually demonstrates great athleticism and ability.
She is well versed in the fundamentals, teaching the other Tunes how to shoot a layup during practice. During the game, she exhibits great handles, breaking Arachnneka's ankles with a crossover. Lola also proves to be an excellent passer, setting up LeBron James for multiple dunks, including recreating the iconic Dwayne Wade to LeBron James alley-oop.
3 LeBron James
As a 4 time NBA champion, LeBron James is a proven winner and inarguably one of the greatest basketball players of all time. While he is initially shown to be a tough teammate, he learns to loosen up and allow the Tunes to be themselves. After this, he begins to click with his teammates and develops chemistry.
He is able to hit mid-range shots and throw down a couple of huge dunks. Like Michael Jordan in the first film, LeBron James does not learn to take advantage of his cartoon setting until the final play but uses these abilities to score the game-winning basket.
2 Chronos
While there are several big-name NBA players who star in the movie, the avatar based on Damian Lillard, Chronos, is easily the most powerful basketball player. As the Goon Squad's secret weapon, Chronos comes off the bench and immediately demonstrates his ability.
He is able to move at incredibly fast speeds, running and dribbling at a blistering pace. But, most impressively, he also has the ability to slow down time around him. He uses this power to chase down the Road Runner, steal the ball, and score with great ease.
1 Dom James
While Dom James does not show much interest in actual basketball, he is incredibly invested in virtual basketball, spending hours of his time creating the video game Dom Ball. As the creator of the game, Dom knows all the tips and tricks, easily making him the best player.
He is able to use launch pads to fly through the air, winning the opening tip and blocking his dad's shot. He uses the court's barriers in a creative way, ricocheting passes off of it. He is also able to use power-ups and upgrades to run faster and use power moves that make him unguardable.
