The netadmin user - Documentation for BMC Discovery 20.08

The netadmin user account is a special account with limited privileges. It enables you to change network, hostname and gateway settings, and to reboot the appliance.

You can no longer remotely log in using the netadmin user. Rather, you should log in as the root user and use the netadmin account as described in the following section.

To use the netadmin account, enter the following as the root user:

su - netadmin

You see the following text based interface:

Select an option by entering the code letter:

Enter G to configure the appliance hostname and the gateway details.
Enter I to configure the appliance network interfaces.
Enter P to change the netadmin user password,
Enter R to exit the netadmin session and reboot the appliance.
Enter Q to exit the netadmin session without rebooting the appliance.

If you make any configuration changes from the General Settings or Network Interfaces menu, you must reboot the appliance for the changes to take effect.

The following tables describe the items in the General Settings and Network Interface menus:

G - General Settings menu

Key	Label	Description
H	Change Hostname: current.hostname	Enter H to set the hostname. At the Hostname or FQDN: prompt enter the new hostname or an FQDN to use as the hostname. Press enter to return to the General Settings menu.
G	Change Gateway: current.gateway	Enter G to change the gateway. At the Gateway: prompt enter the gateway IP address. Press return and at the Gateway Device: prompt enter the gateway device type (currently only "ens160" is supported).
D	Discard changes	Discard any changes and remain in the General Settings menu. Requires confirmation.
C	Commit changes	Commit any changes and remain in the General Settings menu. Requires confirmation.
Q	Return to the main menu	Discard any unsaved changes and return to the main menu. Requires confirmation.

I - Network Interfaces menu

Netadmin user does not support IPv6

The netadmin user does not support IPv6. If you need to configure an IPv6 address for the appliance, you must do so on the OS command line.

Key	Label	Description
1	Reconfigure ens160: current.configuration	Enter 1 to reconfigure ens160. At the Use DHCP prompt enter Y to use DHCP or N to use a static IP address. If you use a static IP address enter the IP address and Netmask when prompted. For DHCP and static IP addresses, choose whether to enable the setting at boot. At the Enable on boot prompt, enter Y or N. If you set a static IP to ens160 you must also configure a gateway using General settings (the G option from the Main menu). Note: If you change the IP address of the appliance, you will also need to update proxy configurations (known appliance in the proxy manager), and for consolidation you must delete and re-create the existing connections.
A	Add interface	Enter A to add a new interface. At the Device: prompt enter the new device name. For example ens1. At the Use DHCP prompt enter Y to use DHCP or N to use a static IP address. If you use a static IP address enter the IP address and Netmask when prompted. For DHCP and static IP addresses, choose whether to enable the setting at boot. At the Enable on boot prompt, enter Y or N.
R	Remove/Restore Network Interfaces	Enter R to list configured network interfaces. To remove or restore a listed interface, enter the menu number corresponding to the interface. A [DELETED] flag marks removed interfaces.
D	Discard changes	Discard any changes and remain in the Network Interfaces menu. Requires confirmation.
C	Commit changes	Commit any changes and remain in the Network Interfaces menu. Requires confirmation.
Q	Return to the main menu	Discard any unsaved changes and return to the main menu. Requires confirmation.

P - Change netadmin password
