The Rock Still Rumored For Unique WrestleMania 39 Appearance
Marcus Reynolds Just because it doesn't appear The Rock is going to have a match at this year's WrestleMania doesn't mean he isn't going to appear. At least, that's according to a report that suggests The Rock "may show up" at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California.
According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, The Rock's decision not to participate in a match hasn't ruled him out of being part of the Showcase of the Immortals, especially since the event is taking place so close to The Rock spends a lot of his time these days. WWE has now confirmed Cody Rhodes vs. Roman Reigns for this year's event, but per Meltzer, The Rock may still do an angle at WrestleMania 39, and potentially take part in an impromptu "three-second match" that sees him beat someone quickly without having to go through the rigors of getting in in-ring shape.
It was his inability to feel comfortable wrestling a long affair in the main event that forced him to opt-out. A quick appearance eliminates the need to have the stamina to wrestle. The only thing WWE and The Rock need to worry about is ensuring he's not injured. For stars like The Rock and John Cena, that is a real concern as they stay active in Hollywood, especially for insurance reasons.
Will WWE Keep The Rock and Roman Reigns Apart?
If The Rock does show up, the question will be if WWE will be tempted to do what feels natural which is put him and Roman Reigns in the same segment. If there's no match and WWE would like to avoid stirring up talk that there could be a bout between the two anytime soon, they might have to keep these two far away from each other. At the same time, maybe WWE wants to tease that this bout isn't completely out of the question.
