What to Do with Your Old Exercise Equipment

Your resolution for the New Year is to get in shape and to do that, you want to upgrade your home exercise equipment.
While some items such as free weights, kettle bells and resistance bands generally have long life spans, what do you do with that ’80s-era exercise bike, the clunky elliptical no one will use or the beyond-repair treadmill?
Here are four ways to get rid of your old exercise equipment.

1. Sell Used Gym Equipment
If the equipment still works and is just gathering dust in the basement or garage, sell it! New exercise equipment is expensive so many people look for used models to get started. There are some fitness companies that will buy old gym equipment and may even pick it up. You can also try selling exercise equipment on craigslist or in a garage sale. 2. Donate Used Gym Equipment
If that treadmill still works, consider donating it. Check with your local community center, senior center or even high school to see if they are interested in the used gym equipment. If the exercise equipment is in working order, donation pick-up organizations like Goodwill or the Salvation Army may also take it.
3. Junk It
When the equipment is beyond repair, it may be time to junk it. Try a junk removal company, which will charge you a fee to come and take it off your hands. 4. Give It Away
One person’s trash is another person’s treasure. Websites such as Nextdoor and craigslist allow you to post items you want to give away. And if you live in a busy neighborhood, you can always try the old-fashioned method of putting the item out by the curb or in the alley with a “FREE” sign. You can also donate your unwanted tools.
