A user can apply voice effects to their TikTok videos after taking them into the app's editing page, free from video speed alterations.

TikTok is incredibly enjoyable because of its users' seemingly endless stream of videos, made hilarious by the many filters and effects that can be applied to posts. A person doesn't have to be a pro at video editing at all to produce eye-catching content. They just need to have the knack for toying around with the TikTok app and applying the many available tools to their recordings.

TikTok recently made several updates to the app's camera and editing suite that include new features such as the ability to add GIFs as backgrounds through the Green Screen effect. Another fantastic addition to the many editing tools on TikTok is the ability to morph any sound or voice from recorded videos into an animal sound or musical instrument. For example, users can appear to meow like a cat or sound like they have an actual microphone in front of them.

When recording a video, users will have the option to enable any of the available effects before recording, such as 'Enhance' to turn beauty mode on or 'Filters' to change how the video looks overall. 'Voice effects,' however, is a feature that only appears after a video has already been taken and the user hits the checkmark icon to advance to the editing page, where more effects can be added. It also only shows up as long as the 'Speed' option wasn't modified during the recording stage. To start recording a cool TikTok video with altered audio, tap the + icon at the bottom of the screen and apply any preferred effects except 'Speed.' When ready, keep the red button pressed to record a video clip. Once satisfied with the recordings, tap the checkmark to move to the editing page. Hit 'Voice effects' to change how the original audio of the recording sounds.

What Do TikTok Voice Effects Sound Like?

TikTok currently has 15 voice effects to choose from. Each one has a distinct sound that users can use to match their video's theme or mood. They can also preview what each effect sounds like on the recording by simply tapping on the effect and listening to the output while on the TikTok draft. In addition, there are a few sound effects that are new to the collection. For example, 'Suona' translates spoken word into a loud, high-pitched wind instrument sound. 'Flute' is another musical instrument with a sound similar to the suona but slightly softer and airier. Finally, 'Cat' obviously transforms humans into mewling felines.

'Mic,' 'Megaphone' and 'Echo' are three voice effects that retain the typical sound of the user's voice but are artificially amplified in varying levels. Want to have a cartoonishly high voice? 'Chipmunk' quite literally makes users sound like one of Alvin and the Chipmunks, and if that's not high-pitched enough, 'Helium' lets them pretend they've inhaled a lungful of balloon air. On the other hand, 'Baritone' and 'Giant' are great options for garnering a deep set of pipes, which could be funny when used by people who sing or talk with exceptionally high voices.

Voice alterations that are popular on TikTok tend to transform voices into mechanical sound effects. For example, 'Robot,' 'Low Battery' and 'Vibrato' are perfect to use for channeling a person's inner Dalek, while 'Electronic' and 'Synth' both provide an old-school, auto-tune feel that could be fun to apply to a singing TikTok video. Once any of these voice effect options have been selected, all that's left to do to save and post the TikTok video with the voice effect applied is to hit 'Next,' type out a caption—make sure to include the #voiceeffects hashtag to maximize relevant views— and tap 'Post.'
