Why WWE Added Bobby Lashley vs. Brock Lesnar To MSG Show [Report]
Mia Russell A WWE Championship match between Bobby Lashley and Brock Lesnar is being advertised for the Mar. 5 "Road to WrestleMania" event at Madison Square Garden in New York.
Lesnar doesn't usually wrestle matches at house shows, but his involvement on the Mar. 5 card is reportedly being done as a way to increase event ticket sales at the world's most famous arena. Melter noted that the previous event at MSG
In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer explained that Vince McMahon decided to add Lesnar to the Mar. 5 card because the last WWE event at the venue didn't sell out. Meltzer noted that it was "one of the lowest crowds in the last 80 years". As such, Lesnar's addition to the card should only help WWE sell more tickets.
Meltzer added "every Lesnar appearance is very expensive and hardly cost effective for a house show, particularly in a building where you need a huge number just to break even."

MSG is also advertising Becky Lynch vs. Bianca Belair and Rhea Ripley in a triple threat match for the Raw Women's Championship, Seth Rollins vs. Roman Reigns for the Universal Championship and Ronda Rousey and Sasha Banks vs. Charlotte Flair and Natalya in a tag team match.
Lesnar will look to regain the WWE Championship at the Feb. 19 Elimination Chamber pay-per-view in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Lashley will defend the title against Lesnar, AJ Styles, Riddle, Austin Theory and Seth Rollins inside the chamber. Regardless of who wins the match, it looks like the Lashley-Lesnar feud will continue past Elimination Chamber.
Brock Lesnar Always Draws
There's a reason why Vince McMahon always uses Brock Lesnar in the main event scene. Like it or not, Lesnar is a top money draw for the company, and that isn't going to change. The WWE Universe happily welcomed him back at SummerSlam 2021, following a WWE absence that lasted more than a year. Adding Lesnar to the MSG event is a quick and simple way to increase the ticket sales.
